Strider PI is Texas's original, in-person, PI training academy, founded in 2019.
No PI academy existed—no structured route from civilian to professional investigator. So we built it.
— THE ACADEMY PHILOSOPHY
It begins with a conversation. We want to know where you're coming from, what you hope to achieve, and whether you're ready to bring your A-game.
We're selective because outcomes matter. Our trainees go on to work as PIs, bounty hunters, personal protection officers and surveillance professionals. Others use the training to locate unknown relatives, help family or work for attorneys.
We look for people who are serious about becoming Texas PIs and work well in a team. Classes stay small, 4 to 7 students, like DEA groups or FBI surveillance teams. Everyone gets more time with the instructors, and it's the start of your network in the PI world.
If you've thought about becoming a PI for five, ten or twenty years and you're finally ready to take a real step, we know that moment. We want to be the right place for you.

Real caseworks,
not simulations
OSINT day works a live or cold case, but either way, it's real. Surveillance day puts you in the field for a live exercise with 9 to 12 surveillance "evolutions", all contributing to your learning journey of field work. Our founders believe this is the best and ONLY way to learn.
Our instructors are drawn from former FBI Agents, Texas Rangers, Police Academy Instructors, LAPD Watch Commanders, Police Chiefs, Recon Marines, and more.

Zero to one
You don’t just earn a certificate. You begin developing the three foundational skills needed to take on initial cases such as locates, fidelity investigations, workmen’s comp. We also support your quest to earn your P.I. license. On Day 3, we typically focus on report writing and startup strategies, to give you the best starter skill set and ideas on how to move closer to your goals.

Dave may be the only Colorado Ranger - MBA - Texas PI on the planet. He specializes in major case fraud, “anything that involves money,” he says. Dave’s crew has successfully worked major burglary, theft, and semi-public corruption cases. Dave brings the same forensic discipline to the classroom that he applies to active cases.
Before founding StriderPI in 2019, Dave directed a serial predator lab, served as a Colorado Ranger, a Reserve Sheriff's Deputy, and also as a Police Academy Instructor at the Southwest Regional Law Enforcement Academy. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner (C.F.E.), holds an MBA, and was previously a POST Level 1 Colorado Peace Officer.

Meet the Team
Dave Amis
GM, Texas PI, CFE, MBA, & Lead Instructor
Dave may be the only Colorado Ranger - MBA - Texas PI on the planet.
He specializes in major case fraud, burglary, theft, and semi-public corruption.
Previously DA served as the director of a serial predator lab, a Colorado Ranger, a Reserve Sheriff's Deputy, and an instructor at the Southwest Regional Law Enforcement Academy.
He is the lead instructor and class designer for StriderPI.
StriderPI draws on an elite network of guest instructors and practitioners. They don't present lectures — they debrief real cases and share hard-won experience from careers most people only read about.

Lead OSINT instructor and a digital forensics expert, TC is a former FBI Special Agent and Supervisory Special Agent who specialized in Public Corruption and criminal matters.

StriderPI Training (S.P.I.T.) is preparatory skill-building only. It is not DPS-approved training and does not satisfy Texas licensing or experience requirements. All hands-on exercises are educational simulations. Strider Private Investigations is a separately licensed Class A investigations company. Training participants are not employees or agents of the licensed company.
