Missing Persons

Missing person, or rescue? Know the difference — then work the case.

This is a hands-on, case-driven course that teaches new Texas PIs how to lawfully and effectively locate missing persons. You'll learn the critical difference between a “missing person” investigation and a “rescue” operation, how to use open-source intelligence (OSINT) for locates, how to classify different types of missing-person cases, and a variety of search strategies. Day Two is entirely live casework on five real-world style scenarios.

Foundations, Field & OSINT

  • Missing persons or rescue? Legal thresholds and when you must call the police

  • OSINT for locates — free tools first, paid tools second, Texas-legal throughout

  • Types of missing persons and how the investigation changes with each

  • Choosing and developing profitable niches (elderly, runaways, high-net-worth, insurance, family law)

  • Field work fundamentals for missing-person cases

  • Combining field work and OSINT in real time (table-top exercise)

DAY TWO

Live Casework

  • Five complete missing-person cases worked in small teams

  • Voluntary adult, elderly, and parental-abduction indicator scenarios

  • Potential foul-play scenarios for risk assessment practice

  • Team presentations with instructor critique
